PATIALA, January 13: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today welcomed People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Badal’s encouraging response to the idea of broad based secular alliance with the Congress in the interest of the state for the forthcoming elections in Punjab.
Reacting to Mr Badal’s statement that he was open to an understanding with the Congress in Punjab’s interest, the PCC president said, “Manpreet’s response has been encouraging and we hope to take the idea to the logical conclusion”.
“We have multiple points of convergence with Manpreet and I hope together we can steer Punjab out of the social, political and economic anarchy the Akalis and the BJP have pushed it into during last nine years of their misrule”, Capt Amarinder said, adding, when the goal is common the commonality in the means can always be worked out.
The PCC president reiterated that he has always favoured a broad based understanding and alliance with the likeminded secular parties to ensure that the Akali-BJP government is thrown out and Punjab is put back on the track of growth and progress.
Capt Amarinder also appreciated Manpreet’s concern over the sliding economy and expressed confidence that Punjab will witness massive growth and development in the new Congress regime that is certain to come to power in 2017.
