Amarinder Singh supporters celebrate after announcement of PPCC President

CHANDIGARH, The newly appointed Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh today thanked the Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi and the Vice President Mr Rahul Gandhi for reposing faith in him to lead the party in the state.

He expressed confidence that he will come to their expectations alongwith those of the people, party workers and leaders across the state as all of them saw hope in the Congress. He said, he will take everybody along and the Congress will fight the elections with complete unity and full strength.

In a special message to the youth in particular, Capt Amarinder promised to usher in a new era of hope and prosperity. “I know with the closure of industry economy has slid down and there are no jobs”, he told them, adding, “it is matter of one year more, when Punjab will be re-launched on the path of progress and glory and where everyone whether an educated youth, a farmer, a trader, an industrialist or an employee will feel proud, confident and happy”.

He said, people of Punjab are eagerly waiting for the 2017 elections to bring Congress back to power after about a disastrous decade under the Akali-BJP rule which has seen Punjab sliding on all fronts whether “social, political, economic, agricultural or industrial”.

The Punjab Congress President said, his top most priority will be to restore the faith and confidence of people in the political leadership as the Akali-BJP alliance has badly failed them. He said, people of Punjab were disillusioned and had lost all hope and were looking up to Congress to come back.

“So much so people are not prepared to see the face of Akali leaders and ministers and they cannot venture out without extra security”, he said, while pointing out how even their ministers were being thrashed by the angry public. He promised to hold them accountable for all their sins of omission and commission.

“Youth are disillusioned and a number of them are falling prey to the drugs, the farmers are committing suicide while the industry is shutting down or moving out”, he pointed out, while remarking Punjab had not witnessed such atmosphere of uncertainty and hopelessness even during the dark days of militancy.

Capt Amarinder reiterated that the entire rank and file of the party was united in Punjab and everybody was sensitive and serious about throwing out the Akali-BJP government and bringing Congress back to power. “While the beginning has already been made from Bihar where Congress made impressive gains, Punjab will set new records in electoral history of the country”, he asserted.
