Capt Amarinder rubbishes BJP denial of vendetta in National Herald case

capt11CHANDIGARH, December 9: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today rejected and ridiculed the claims of the Bhartiya Janata Party government at the centre that there was no vendetta in the National Herald case, in which it was trying to implicate the Congress president Ms Sonia Gandhi, the vice president Mr Rahul Gandhi and others.

In a statement issued here today Capt Amarinder asked, if there was really no vendetta as the BJP claims, what was the locus standi of the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in pursuing the case so viciously and so vigoruously. He said, the Congress respected and has full faith in the country’s judicial system and it will fight the case legally.

“At the same time we cannot ignore and overlook the overt and covert enthusiasm shown by the BJP leaders and the government in pursuing the case”, he remarked.

The Punjab Congress leader also pointed out, how the BJP government had removed ED, Director Rajan Katoch after he had made strong observations that there was no merit in the case and he had ordered its closure. He said, Katoch was unceremoniously removed by the government. “If this is not vendetta then what is it?” he asked.

The former Chief Minister asked, if the BJP is not really resorting to the vendetta politics, then how come the cases against Ms Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Mr Chidambaram and his son, Mr Virbadra Singh and his family and himself (Capt Amarinder) and his family cropped up just after the BJP assumed power at the centre. “Democracies don’t work with vendetta”, Capt Amarinder warned the BJP saying, it can have disastrous repercussions and ramifications.
