Canadian dollar close to eleven-year low

TORONTO — The Canadian dollar is trading near levels that it hasn’t seen since the summer of 2004.
The loonie traded at 76.23 cents US, down 0.22 cent of a U.S. cent from Friday’s close. Earlier it had been as low as 75.90, the lowest since closing at 75.82 cents US on Aug. 30, 2004.
The S&P/TSX composite index was at 14,468.30, down 0.14 from Friday’s close.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 9.46 points at 17,588.74, the Nasdaq index fell 8.56 points to 5,106.82, and the S&P 500 declined 0.61 point to 2,097.43.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract was US$1,091.40 an ounce, up $2 from Monday but down $3.70 from Friday, the September crude contract was at US$46.06 a barrel, up 89 cents from Monday but down $1.06 from Friday, and the contract for natural gas was up five cents from Monday at US$2.80.
