Canadian dollar and price of oil relatively flat following recent gains

TORONTO — North American stock markets were showing little change in morning trading today.
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX index was down 16.55 points or 0.13 per cent at 12,850.61 nearly two hours after the opening bell.
The declines in New York were similar.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 30.68 points or 0.19 point at 16,423.15.
The broader S&P 500 composite index declined 8.51 points or 0.44 per cent to 1,918.31 and the Nasdaq composite index lost 31.55 points or 0.70 per cent to 4,502.52.
The Canadian dollar was at 72.77 cents US, down 0.15 of a cent from Wednesday.
On the commodity markets, the March crude contract was up 20 cents at US$30.86 per barrel.
In other commodities, March natural gas was down 6.4 cents at US$1.88 per mmbtu, while April gold was up $7.30 at US$1,218.70 an ounce.
