CHANDIGARH, February 26: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today said that by trying to distort his statement on providing reservations also to the economically weaker sections of the society alongwith those already getting these, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had only vindicated his stand that he (Kejriwal) was a congenital liar who lies so shamelessly at ease and with all the comfort and without any regret or remorse.

Referring to Kejriwal’s statement on Friday wherein he had wrongly alleged that Capt Amarinder was arguing for making economy, instead of caste, as the basis of reservation, he (Capt Amarinder) said, it was surprising that despite being corrected and confronted by the concerned reporter he shamelessly stuck to his lie.

Asserting that the economically weaker sections of the society also deserve reservation benefits along with the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the PCC President asked Kejriwal to clarify his stand on the issue.

“Instead of beating around the bush, make your stand clear whether you support the reservation for economically weaker sections from among the general categories or not”, he asked the Delhi CM, adding, “from your statements today, you are clearly against the economically weaker sections from the upper castes and general categories”.

By opposing reservation for the economically weaker sections of the society, Kejriwal had only proved that how ignorant he was about Punjab and how unconcerned about the Punjabis where a large section of the population from the general categories cannot even make both ends meet. “And I reiterate, irrespective of Kejriwal’s misleading lies and distortions, that these people also need reservation benefits like the others”, he asserted.

Capt Amarinder said, Kejriwal was deliberately telling a lie by saying, if economically weaker sections from the general castes were provided reservations these would be taken away from SC/ST/OBC quota. He said, this will be obviously from the general category and if need be his government will approach the Supreme Court which has put a 50 percent cap on reservations.
