Toronto — The last two candidates for leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives, and the province’s Official Opposition, square off today in their first head-to-head debate.
Barrie MP Patrick Brown and Deputy PC leader Christine Elliott are holding their first debate since the field was narrowed to just the two of them in Tecumseh, near Windsor.
Unlike previous debates, the Tories did livestream today’s event, which party officials said would have been up to the local riding association that organized the first Brown-Elliott head-to-head to arrange.
Third-place candidate Monte McNaughton pulled out of the race Thursday and threw his support to Brown, who sold over 41,000 PC memberships, far more than his rivals.
Elliott, the widow of former finance minister Jim Flaherty, is making her second run for the PC leadership after losing to Tim Hudak in 2009.
PC members will vote in early May for a leader to replace Hudak, who resigned after the Conservatives lost their fourth consecutive election last June.
