Brampton :- A Brampton woman had an angry outburst in court Thursday after a judge sentenced her to 12-years in prison for killing her pregnant sister-in-law Poonam Litt.
Earlier this year, a jury found Mandeep Punia guilty of manslaughter in the death of 27-year-old Poonam Litt. The two had a fight over family-related issues and Litt was stabbed in the neck as she held her two-year-old daughter in her arms.
Punia’s husband, Skinder Punia, was also found guilty of being an accessory to the fact for helping dispose of Litt’s body. He has been sentenced to seven years in prison on the charges.

Kulwant Litt – Punia’s father – pleaded guilty in helping cover up his daughter-in law’s death and currently remains in custody.
Punia’s 12-year-sentence includes time already served in pre-trial custody.
She will spend at most five years, six months and 12 days in prison.
The woman was seen weeping at the start of the proceedings, before the judge even entered the courtroom. She yelled out after her sentence was handed down.
“This is not right,” she cried. “If anything happens to my children, the court is responsible.”
Litt’s family shouted at her from the gallery, screaming “Go to hell,” and “This is not fair, you murdered two people.”
Justice Steve Coroza told the courtroom that the sentence does not represent the value of the Litt’s life.
“(It’s) only designed to reflect what I feel is an appropriate sentence for the offender so far as the law is concerned,” he said.
Litt – who was also a mother to a two-year-old girl – vanished from her Brampton home in February 2009. Her remains were found three years later in a wooded area in Caledon.
Shortly after her remains were found, police charged her family members in connection with the crime.
When Litt went missing, the family told investigators she left her young daughter in the care of relatives before she left home for work. Litt never showed up for work that day and her purse, wallet and cellphone were left at home.
Her husband was out of town with his mother at the time of her death and police cleared him of any involvement.
