Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Jaipur: BJP on Tuesday won 31 of the 46 civic bodies, including five municipal corporations, in Rajasthan which went to polls last week.
The party won five of the six municipal corporations, eleven municipal councils and fifteen municipal boards, said a spokesman of Rajasthan State Election Commission.
With the party winning five municipal corporations, its councillors will now elect Mayors.
Opposition Congress won five municipal councils and two municipal boards and an Independent won a municipal council, the spokesman said.
In the remaining one municipal council and five municipal boards, BJP had a narrow majority and would have to depend on Opposition Congress or Independents to elect chairmen in tomorrow’s election.
Polls were held in six municipal corporations of Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur and Bharatpur, 18 municipal councils and 22 municipal boards on November 22.
BJP won 35 of the 60 wards in Bikaner Municipal Corporation, leaving Congress with 16 and Independents with 9 wards.
The party registered a landslide victory in Udaipur Municipal Corporation where it won 49 of the 55 wards, leaving 3 for Congress, one to CPM and 2 to Independents.
In Kota, BJP won 57 of the 65 wards, Congress 6 wards and Independents 2 wards.
In Jodhpur Municipal Corporation, BJP won 39 out of the 65 wards, Congress won in 19 wards and Independents in 5 wards. Results of two wards were yet to come out.
In Jaipur Municipal Corporation, BJP won 66 of the 91 wards, Congress 18 and Independents 9.
Bharatpur Municipal Corporation would face a tough task in electing the Mayor as BJP is away from the majority here by winning 18 of the 50 wards, Congress 11, BSP 1 and Independents 20 wards.
Though results have been declared through EVMs used for voting, there is a remote chance of changes in figures or tally, the official said.
Elected councillors would elect Mayors in six corporations and chairmen in 40 civic bodies tomorrow.
