Sangrur, Rahulinder Singh Sidhu, president of the Sangrur Lok Sabha Constituency Youth Congress and son of Lehragaga MLA Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, was today detained by the police — along with his supporters — for some minutes at Lehragaga.
He was protesting at a post office at Lehragaga against the recent decision of the Modi government to withdraw postage stamps on former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
As a symbolic protest, Rahulinder Singh Sidhu and his supporters locked the rear gate of the post office.
Station House Officer (SHO), Lehragaga, Pushpinder Singh said that Rahulinder Sidhu and his supporters had been brought to the police station as they were adamant on protesting inside the post office. However, after some minutes, they were let off, he said.
Lashing out at the Modi government, Rahulinder said it was shameful on the part of the Centre to withdraw the postage stamps on Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He said that the Modi government was indulging in vindictive politics to suppress its political adversaries.
