Chandigarh, August 20: Former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Thursday met
aggrieved families of victims who were killed after a landslide hit
Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib in Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh on
Tuesday. All the seven deceased killed in the tragic mishap belonged
to Rogla Tarwa Mandi village in Sangrur district.
Bhattal while consoling the distressed families appreciated the
efforts made by Himachal Pradesh government for its relief and rescue
operations in the aftermath of the incident.
However, she said that Badal government has so far not given any sort
of the compensation to the families of the deceased. She said Punjab
government should have acted swiftly to ensure the compensation amount
is disbursed to the affected families at the earliest.
She said that families of deceased told her that nobody from state
administration has contacted them in regard to compensation. In fact,
she said that families told her that she (Bhattal) is the only
political leader who met them.
Former Chief Minister said that families also told her that they were
not even spared for toll-tax in Punjab while bringing the dead bodies
of their near and dear to their native village. She said it is really
shameful on the part of toll-tax owners to collect money from
tragedy-stricken families.
