Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, while demanding dismissal of the Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia from the cabinet, reiterated the demand for CBI probe into the nefarious drug racket in the state with new evidence emerging in the case.
In a statement issued here today, Mr Bajwa said the basic issue now was that the name of Mr Majithia had appeared in the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate in the Patiala Court. The chargesheet included the confessional statement of one of the accused Jagjit Singh Chahal stating that he had paid Rs. 35 lakh to the minister as what had been described as the election fund between 2007 to 2012. The money was paid to Mr Majithia himself at his Amritsar residence.
Mr Bajwa also referred to the disclosures made by the other accused Manjinder Singh Bittu Aulakh in this case stating that it was Mr Majithia who had introduced him to his NRI friend Satta who, along with two other NRIs was part of the racket. They stayed at the residence of Mr Majithia and used his vehicles and security. Moreover, Mr Majithia had also told Aulakh to help Satta and his associates in business whatever that was.
The PPCC chief pointed out to that part of Chahal’s statement in which he had confessed that it was Mr Majithia who had asked him to sell pseudopherdine to Satta which is used for manufacturing synthetic drug known as ICE. Chahal had pharmaceutical units in Himachal Pradesh.
He asserted when such evidence had been attached by the ED in the chargesheet, the same should be deeply probed.
He reiterated the demand for handing over the investigation of Rs. 6000 crore racket to the CBI as there was every apprehension of Mr Majithia getting off the hook as his sister was a cabinet minister at the centre. Moreover, the government had earlier ordered the transfer of the investigating officer in this case and the order was stayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He emphasised that it was in the context of this shabby effort of the government to influence probe that his party had been demanding the CBI probe.
