Amritsar, October 30: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today prayed for peace and amity in Punjab at the Golden Temple at the conclusion of path of Shri Akhand Path Sahib that was organized on his behalf.
Later he referred to the cases of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib that resulted in anarchy with the highways being blocked for days by the people in protest creating law and order situation. He called upon the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal to introspect as to why so many cases of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib had taken place and why the intelligence set up had utterly collapsed. He said the people wanted to know as to who or which forces was behind these unfortunate incidents.
He took the Badal government to task for miserable failure of the state police in controlling the situation and counseled Mr Badal to drastically scale down his own security so that the police force could be spared for law and order duty. He said more than a battalion had been deployed for the security of the Badal family that was without any parallel in the country. He said despite this, the Badal family was not in a position to enter villages.
Bajwa said the appointment of Sh. Suresh Arora as the new DGP of Punjab Police is a step taken in the right direction. He further said that the new DGP is an upright officer and hoped that he will soon restore the chain of command which is absent in the force today.
Mr Bajwa said the All India Congress President Shrimati Sonia Gandhi and All India Congress Vice President Mr Rahul Gandhi were being apprised of the sensitive situation in the state every day.
