Moga/Chandigarh, April 30: The murder of a young dalit girl who jumped out from a speeding bus belonging to a transport company that is owned and controlled by Sukhbir Singh Badal and other members of the Badal family demonstrate the lawlessness and anarchy that is prevalent in the State of Punjab. It is imperative to indicate that the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and his family members are majority shareholders of the company and hence the transport company has always been given preferential treatment enabling them to violate the law with impunity. This is not the first such incident of lawlessness concerning Orbit Transport and unfortunately such incidents have become a norm in Punjab.
It is shocking that a company which is being run and controlled by the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab has failed to even have minimum safety and security standards for women and instead of preventing any untoward incidents on their buses, the employees of Orbit Transport themselves indulged in such horrendous acts of harassment and molestation compelling a young girl and her mother to jump from a moving bus in order to protect their honour. The sense of impunity with which associates and cronies of the Badal family run amok in Punjab stems from the belief that they will be protected by none other than the highest echelons of the Badal family. The Badal family today stands completely exposed on the issue of women empowerment and protection of girl child through its programmes such as Nanhi Chaan, etc as a young girl has been murdered and to add salt on the aggrieved family’s wounds, Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal feigned ignorance about the ownership of this transport company by her husband and other family members.
It is pertinent to point out that in a similar incident in Delhi with regard to the unfortunate Uber rape case, the Directors of the Uber Radio Taxi Company were charged under several provisions of the Indian Penal Code for criminal negligence and failure to maintain safety safeguards in their company plied taxis. Further their licenses were immediately cancelled by the Government of India for their lapses and criminal negligence. Moreover even during the ghastly Nirbhaya incident, the owner of the bus, Dinesh Yadav was charged under the Indian Penal Code for criminal negligence amongst other charges and sections of the Indian Penal Code. Hence, the same standard of law must be applied to the present case and Sukhbir Singh Badal and other members of the Badal family who are owners and control the running of the Orbit Transport Company shall be charged under the Indian Penal Code.
Therefore, in the peculiar facts wherein the company under investigation is none other than the one that is owned and controlled by the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, I will humbly urge the Hon’ble Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to suo-motu direct a judicial inquiry into this unfortunate incident where a young girl of 15 years had been harassed, molested and murdered by employees of the Orbit Transport as any probe by the Punjab Police will be a mere charade and at the same time in the interest justice I will urge that that the bus licenses and permits of Orbit Transport should be immediately cancelled. Further Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and other owners of Orbit Transport should be charged under Section 304 A and 188 of the IPC for criminal negligence.
