“She should have owned the moral responsibility for the tragedy which is a blot on the face of Punjab rather than feigning ignorance about the ownership of Orbit companies whose managing director happens to be her husband Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal who is the Deputy Chief Minister. She has no right to be in Union cabinet after this grave incident and this misrepresentation of fact”, he added.
Mr Bajwa said her attitude had only reinforced the impression that her so called Nanhi Chhan campaign to save the girl child was nothing but part of her political strategy to consolidate base to enter electoral politics and lacked sincerity and commitment.
Bajwa said that the Punjab Congress would gherao orbit buses at Mohali from 11.00 AM on May 4. The gherao will be lead PPCC President and the Congress Legislature Party leader Mr Sunil Jakhar. Both the leaders maintained this would be the first phase of the agitation which would be taken to other district headquarters subsequently.
They demanded that case should be registered against Mr Sukhbir Badal under Section 304 IPC the way it was done in the case of Nirbhaya in Delhi. In that case, the owner of the bus was also made culpable and all permits of that company were cancelled. They demanded that permits of all the Orbit and other transport companies owned by the Badals should be cancelled forthwith. The staff of these buses had been regular offender. Even the bus that was involved in the tragic incident near Moga, had tainted glasses and curtains that was illegal.
He also cited the case of Uber taxi service that was banned after the rape incident involving its driver in Delhi. He said it was the responsibility of the employer to check the antecedents of the employee and as such, it was Mr Sukhbir Badal who should also be booked.
The PPCC chief said the deteriorating law and order would be part of the Rail Roko agitation on May 2 whose main focus would be the demands of the farmers.
He also lambasted the Badal government for tardy procurement saying the farmers were not getting the bills for their produce sold. Moreover, they were still to get payment.
He reiterated the demand for bonus at the rate Rs 200 per quintal along with compensation for damage to crops.
