Chandigarh, October 31: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today demanded resignation of the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal followed by fresh elections holding him directly responsible for the anarchy in the state. He extended total support to the demands of the Sant Samaj for the release of two brothers Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh and registration of murder case against police officials responsible for opening fire killing two persons at Behbal Kalan.
At the same time, he also demanded resignation by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Mr Avtar Singh Makkar for the denigration of the higher Sikh institutions.
Commenting on the decision of Mr Balwant Singh Ramoowalia to leave the Akali Dal, he said this party had now become a sinking ship and ultimately, besides Mr Badal, only Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Mr Bikram Singh Majithia would be left in the second oldest party. He predicted that this government would fall at its own going by the rate of desertions. He also referred to the resignations by 28 members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
He ridiculed Mr Sukhbir Badal for trying to give impression that all was normal in the state by releasing his own pictures playing cards in Badal village saying when Rome was burning, Nero was fiddling.
Mr Bajwa demanded independent probe, preferably judicial one, into the acts of sacrilege and the efforts to frame innocents in these cases. He said the two brothers should be released unconditionally and case of murder be registered against the guilty police officials. He also demanded that the missing Bir must be traced at the earliest.
He appealed to Akal Takht to withdraw the honour of “Fakhr-e-Qaum Panth Rattan” bestowed upon Mr Badal.
