Chandigarh, July 2: Mr. Rajesh Bagha, Chairman Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission today thanked Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for dedicating National Scholarship Portal to the nation as a part of digital India Week and said that this path breaking step would be instrumental in bringing students of underprivileged and oppressed classes in the mainstream of education, cutting the red tape and nepotism.
Elaborating the benefits of scholarship portal Mr. Bagha said that with this portal needy students living across the country would be able to directly apply on line and get scholarship online from the union government in their bank accounts. He said that this portal would eliminate all middle men creating obstacles in the educational growth of the poor and this would bring transparency and ensure proper delivery of benefits to the needy students.
Elaborating the resounding success of similar portal in state of Punjab Mr. Bagha said that Punjab SC Commission prodded the state government to start scholarship portal so that Scheduled Casts students could get the benefits of Post Matric Scholarship schemes. He said that portal became such a success that number of beneficiaries students which was limited to 20 thousands rose to 3 lakh in one year, the year the state governemtn launched the portal. He said that success rate of delivery of scholarships was 100% with over 3 lakh students belonging to Scheduled Castes communities enjoying of fruits of Union Government pro poor scheme.
He said that National Scholarship portal would script such a success story across the country that other nation would look forward to India to replicate this novel pro poor scheme.
