Chandigarh, Strongly condemning the attack on senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former MP Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu today in Jammu, the state Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa expressed the apprehension that the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and his son and Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal could be behind it. He said this was the second attack against the BJP leader from Punjab in that state.
In a statement, Mr Bajwa said Mr Sidhu was one of the most vocal critics of the Badals in the BJP and it was at their behest that he was denied ticket in the Lok Sabha election from Amritsar from where he had been victorious thrice.
He said the protesters had attacked him in Jammu on an issue which he had already clarified and was no more being raised in his native state in general and Amritsar in particular. The basic issue was political.
He said such attacks were against all norms of democracy and it was an authoritarian tendency to crush dissent.
