Condemns yesterday incident of Dalit Family suicide in Sangrur
Chandigarh: The situation in Punjab is becoming grave with increasing number of farmer suicide in the recent times. This was stated by S Inderjit Singh Zira, Chairman, Kisan Khet Majdoor Cell, PPCC in a statement issued here. Zira lambasted on the Chief Minister of Punjab S Parkash Singh Badal for praising the Modi government when the farmer is not being paid for the produce in the mandis and the number suicides of farmers have multiplied several times. The Modi government gave 1093 crores to the Haryana government as the compensation for the farmers due to inclement weather conditions and just 90 crores were given to the Punjab only. Still Mr Badal is praising Mr Modi for this step motherly treatment being given to Punjab farmer, who is called the creator of green bowl of the country.
Yesterday’s incident of family suicide in Sangrur due to Land acquisition policy of the government is hard example for Modi and Badal. Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family Zira appealed the farmers of the state to unitedly fight against the system raise their voices rather than committing suicides. It was the irony of the state that five times chief minister, one union minister and then the deputy chief minister belong to the MALWA region where the farmer suicide are amongst the highest, Cancer patients are in large numbers due to excessive use of fertilizers, water logging is a big problem, canal system had collapsed due to which every year there are floods.
Zira appealed to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab to personally visit those families who are victims of farmer’s suicides due to increasing debt rather than sitting like some emperor and organizing the Sangat Darshan programs. He also appealed to the Chief Minister to release the compensation for the farmers of the state immediately. Zira said that very soon he along with the members of his cell will soon visit these families personally and will launch awareness drive amongst the farmer community of Punjab.
