* ASSURE FARMERS OF ADEQUATE COMPENSATION AFTER ASSESSMENT OF LOSS
Chandigarh, August 26 : Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today ordered to conduct special girdawari for the assessment of damage caused to the cotton crop due to attack from the whitefly, other insects and pests across the state.
A decision to this effect was taken by Mr. Badal during a specially convened meeting of senior officers here at Chief Minister’s residence this evening on his return from New Delhi.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Mr. Badal directed the Financial Commissioner Revenue to issue detailed instructions immediately to all the Deputy Commissioners in the state to get the entire loss caused to the cotton crop assessed especially in the cotton growing belt of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Mansa, Bathinda, Fazilka and Faridkot districts, where extensive damage has been reported due to curse of whitefly.
The Chief Minister assured the farmers after getting the entire girdawari reports meticulously reviewed by the Revenue authorities; they would be compensated adequately for the loss suffered by them on account of attack from whitefly and other pests.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal, Financial Commissioner Revenue Mr. Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary Finance Mr. DP Reddy, Principal Secretary to CM Mr. SK Sandhu and Special Principal Secretary to CM Mr. Gaggandip Singh Brar.
