Badal led delegation to Governor on SYL Canal legislation without Bill

Parkash-Singh-Badal-2

Chandigarh, March 15: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal led all the MLAs to meet Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki to get the Punjab Satluj Yamuna Link Canal Land (Transfer of Proprietary Rights) Bill, 2016 but there was no Bill to be signed as neither he or his staff carried the file today nor was it sent last evening. The meeting ended in a fiasco, thereby raising question mark over intentions.

It was delegation from all party MLAs to get the Bill signed from the Governor to convert it into Act as per the procedure.

Badal requested Solanki to expedite the matter. He was followed by Leader of the Opposition Charanjit Singh Channi who told the Governor that Punjab was one on this issue and that he should clear the Bill as had been done when Punjab Termination of Agreements Act was passed in 2004 when Capt Amarinder Singh headed the Congress government and Badal was Leader of the Opposition.

“Where is the Bill to be signed”, asked Solanki leaving every one puzzled.

Later Channi told the media that the Badal government did not seem to be sincere going by the non-seriousness.

It may be mentioned that the Bill was unanimously adopted yesterday to de-notify the SYL Canal and return land to the original owners free of cost.

Badal and Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal had earlier met the Governor separately.
