Badal govt. uses bureaucrats to harass congress leaders : Sunil Jakhar

Sunil-Jhakhar1

Chandigarh, Congress legislative Party Leader Sunil Jakhar has reacted strongly over the directions issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Patiala to Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib to bind Fatehgarh Sahib MLA
Kuljeet Singh Nagra to appear before him in connection with hearing of complaint lodged by local SDM Pooja Syal who had accused the legislature of using un-parliamentary language at a meeting in September. The Commissioner said he had been directed by the state govt to conduct inquiry and had received reminder also.
CLP Leader said Congress MLAs had met Vidhan Sabha Speaker on Sept 23 and the latter had assured to conduct inquiry into the matter in person. The summoning of MLA by the Commissioner is infringement on the democratic privileges, defined in the Constitution of India, the officials can submit their complaints, if any, before the Vidhan Sabha’s Privileges Committee, none has got the liberty to humiliate an elected representative, he asserted.
Blaming the ruling politicians for using bureaucrats to harass Fatehgarh Sahib Congress legislature, he warned that such attempts would be resisted strongly, the Congress Legislative Party would stand like a rock behind Nagra, he said.
Jakhar said the Nagar-episode will be raised in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, a privilege motion can also be tabled against the Patiala Division Commissioner, and none would be spared.
Smelling foul in the move, Jakhar said the state government wanted to prevent Opposition from raising voice against rampant corruption, diversion of welfare funds to feed vested interests, scams that embarrassed the ruling alliance leaders and poor governance. In the coming days Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members in the state might also
be targeted by inspiring the state government officials lodged baseless and frivolous complaints, he felt. The state leadership and their senior officials need to be explained that legislature enjoys the status above of principal secretary and decorum has to be maintained accordingly, he said.
