Badal government lacks vision to tackle drug addiction problem, Bhattal

images (1)Chandigarh,Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said on Thursday that present regime in Punjab headed byParkash Singh Badal lacks political vision to tackle the problem of drug addiction
in the state.
She said that due to Badal government’s lackadaisical approach towards dealing with problem of drug addiction,centre government has been forced to order India’s premier research institute – All india Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS) to conduct an independent survey on drug users (heroin, buprenorphine, opium) in Punjab.
She said that even congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has also raised concerns about the problem of drug addiction among youth of the state. Besides this, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) recently termed problem of
drug addiction in Punjab as a “very serious” problem. The NHRC also said that during the current year, more than 500 kg of heroin was seized in Punjab.

The street value of one kg is about Rs one crore. However, senior Congress leader said that SAD-BJP combine government has become a mute spectator pertaining to problem of drug addiction in the state. She said that
