Chandigarh, July 7: Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today asked the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) and State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) to jointly run an orientation program to impart training to the government school teachers to improve their teaching skills so as to enable them to discharge their duties with utmost dedication, sincerity and professional commitment.

This decision was taken by Mr. Badal while reviewing the progress of eleven ‘Adarsh Schools’ being run and managed by the PSEB during a meeting with their Principals here at CMO this morning.

Emphasizing on the significance of training to the teachers, Mr. Badal said that such refresher courses/training modules must be made mandatory for all the teachers to at least attend once during every academic session for up-skilling their teaching capabilities and capacities. To bring far more efficiency in the working of the SCERT, Mr. Badal asked the Principal Secretary Education to work out the modalities for making cadre based recruitment in the district level training institutes under SCERT. The Chief Minister also sanctioned a sum of Rs.One crore for the state teachers’ training program to be initiated by SCERT in collaboration with PSEB.

Referring to the demands put forth by the various Principals of the Adarsh Schools, the Chief Minister asked the Chairperson PSEB to ensure timely recruitment of teaching faculty besides completion of unfinished buildings and provision of proper infrastructure including Science Laboratories, Libraries and construction of playgrounds and sports stadium on priority. He also asked the Chairperson PSEB to regularly monitor the functioning of Adarsh Schools so as to make them running smoothly for imparting quality education to the students especially of the rural areas. He also sought inputs and suggestions from the Principals in the meeting to bring improvement in the functioning of these schools.

The Chief Minister assured the Principals that all their genuine demands would be met at the earliest and asked them to discharge their duties honestly to shape the destiny of the students as they owe onerous duty towards the society being builders of a strong nation. He also directed the Chairperson PSEB to issue instructions for the entire teaching staff of the Adarsh Schools to attend teachers’ training module under capacity building program.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Principal Secretary Finance Mr. D.P. Reddy, Principal Secretary Education Mr. C. Roul, Secretary Expenditure Mr. Jaspal Singh, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Ajoy Sharma and Chairperson PSEB Dr. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal.
