Gurgaon, Indian batting great Rahul Dravid today exhorted the youngsters to aspire to play all three formats of the game and not just focus on T20 cricket. “IPL helps the youngsters as they get exposed to pressure. It gives them almost an international experience. But one should not focus on IPL alone,” said Dravid, who has been roped in as mentor by Delhi Daredevils. Paddy Upton has been appointed as the head coach.
“There are many players who are equally successful in all formats. Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane are a few such players,” Dravid said.
“So my advice to youngsters is to aspire to play all three formats. Why sell yourself short? Why play only one format, why not aspire to play all three?”
Did he expect Negi to be bought for a whopping Rs 8.5 crore at the IPL auction last month?
“The auction can be very dynamic. I don’t think you should judge a player by the price he was bought for at the auction. I don’t like to judge people by the price they are bought at,” said Dravid.
“Pawan is an exciting young talent. He has shown that with CSK. He is a handy lower-order batsman with his left arm spin. That is what the selectors have seen and picked him in the Indian team for. We hope he will produce same performances for Delhi (Daredevils).”
