CHANDIGARH, January 6: The Congress party today asked Sukhpal Singh Khaira to prick his own conscience and introspect whether he has not backstabbed the people of Bholath particularly those party workers who stood by him for last 19 years and had to suffer innumerable excesses and atrocities and false police cases because of him.
“Instead of trying to beat around the bush tell us straight have you not betrayed and backstabbed the Congress workers of Bholath by running away”, the party asked him.
In a joint statement Congress leaders including Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi and Navtej Singh Cheema today reiterated the PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh’s charge that Khaira was a “rank opportunist” who didn’t think even once before backstabbing his party and the party workers from Bholath assembly segment.
The Congress leaders asked him as why was he shying away and being ambiguous about contesting from Bholath. “You have been completely exposed and people have already understood your opportunism no matter how idealistic explanations and excuses you may try to give”, they told Khaira, adding, “if you have not backstabbed people of Bholath then clarify whether you will contest from there or not”.
Reiterating that Capt Amarinder was right in terming him as an opportunist, the Congress leaders asserted, “you are not just an opportunist and backstabber, but an overambitious traitor who can betray anyone anytime to serve his own selfish and vested interests and you typically did that by betraying Congress party which gave you four consecutive chances to contest from Bholath”.
