As Ashish Nehra trends following Rishi Sunak’s appointment as PM, here’s a look at former pacer’s UK connection

Ashish Nehra has been trending on social media since Rishi Sunak’s appointment as the Prime Minister of United Kingdom. The social media users noticed uncanny resemblance between Nehra and Sunak and started sharing close-up pics of the duo.

The cricketer, who isn’t on social media, is making the headlines for no actual reason.

Nehra is neither active in Indian politics nor has he commented on UK politics. But he does have a family connection with UK. Nehra’s wife, Rushma Nehra, resided in England before they tied the knot. Speaking to Gaurav Kapur on Breakfast with Champions, the former India pacer had revealed that he first met his wife when she came to watch a match at the Oval in 2002. Nehra further said that he spends a couple of months there every year (from 5:45).

Nehra lives in Goa but as he revealed on the interview, he visits his mother-in-law in the UK every year. Interestingly, Nehra’s best bowling figures, in ODIs, came against England in the 2003 World Cup. He bowled a spell of 10-2-23-6 as India bowled out England for 168 while defending 251.

The former India pacer retired from international cricket in 2017 and now works as a cricket expert. In IPL, Nehra is associated with Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans. Making their debut in IPL 2022, Gujarat stunned the fans by winning the trophy. The title win saw Nehra become the first-ever India head coach to lift the title in 15 years of the tournament’s history.

Rishi Sunak to take oath on October 28

Rishi Sunak, who has been the talk of the town in India, will take oath as the PM of UK on October 28. The 42-year-old will replace Liz Truss. Truss defeated Sunak in the previous PM elections last month. Her stint lasted less than 50 days. Sunak, a Hindu, took oath as a member of parliament on Bhagavad Gita.
