New Delhi, June 14
In the end the difference did not matter as Delhi’s Arpit Goel had a firm grip on the gold medal in the 25m rapid fire final in the Kumar Surendra Singh shooting championships that got underway today.
Arpit had 31 hits, four more than Indian Air Force’s Shivam Shukla, who finished second. London Olympics silver medallist Vijay Kumar, who is representing Haryana, finished third with 20 hits.
This was the first big medal for the 26-year-old, who took to rapid fire discipline two years ago. “I shoot in both air and free pistol events but I was always interested in the rapid fire. I have won few medals abroad but this is the first big medal in India,” he told The Tribune.
Shooting business
Arpit and his business partner Nikita Sharma runs Abril Creatif, a firm that specialises in customised ear plugs, rifle and pistol weights and various other sporting equipment. For a company that came into being last year, it has already racked up impressive client list. Two-time Olympic medallist Munkhbayer Dorjsuren, World Cup gold medallist Akhil Sheoran, Anish Bhanwala, Sanjeev Rajput among others deal with him. “We are in talks with Gagan Narang regarding his academy requirements. We are doing well as all the top shooters in the country are picking up our products,” he said.
