Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Pathankot / Chandigarh,The stadium at Military Station, Mamun near Pathankot City in Punjab, stood in testimony when the entire military fraternity gathered with pride and a sense of honour, as a grateful nation paid homage to three of its gallant soldiers, who laid down their lives thwarting the dastardly plan of terrorists who had infiltrated from Pakistan in the Arnia Sector of Jammu on 27 November 2014.
The mortal remains of Naik Kulwinder Singh, resident of District Jalandhar in Punjab, Naik Jagsir Singh, resident of District Mansa in Punjab, both from 5th Battalion, the Sikh Light Infantry (OP HILL) and Paratrooper Balwinder Singh, resident of Dhar Kalan district in Punjab, of 1 PARA (Special Forces), were laid in state and a solemn wreath laying ceremony was performed with full military honours. A wreath was laid on behalf of Gen Dalbir Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC Chief of the Army Staff. Lt Gen KJ Singh, AVSM and Bar, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Command, laid a wreath on behalf of all ranks of Western Command. Also, present at the ceremony were Lt Gen Rajeev Tewari, General Officer Commanding 9 Corps and other Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Jawans of all units of the Military Station.
As the Military Band sounded the last post and an impressive ‘Guard of Honour’ raised their rifles in a final salute to the valiant martyrs, everyone present bid farewell to their fallen heroes with a sense of reverence and veneration, in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by them beyond the call of duty, upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Army – Duty, Honour , Country.
