The Shiromani Akali Dal asked Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday to tender an apology to Punjabis for forcing “a non-performing government” on the state and “wasting” five years of Punjab.
The Shiromani Akali Dal also hit out at ministers-turned-rebels, saying after enjoying the fruits of the government for four and a half years, they are not pretending to be innocent and sinless.
In a statement, SAD spokesperson NK Sharma said that Punjab is shocked by the behaviour of Congress ministers and MLAs as they are trying to prove themselves innocent for all the failures of the Congress government led by Capt. Amarinder Singh.
He said now they have read the writing on the wall about the imminent defeat of the Congress for failing to keep its promises made to people on the eve of the 2017 elections. They are trying to put all the blame on the Chief Minister, he said.
Even ministers, who have collective responsibility for decisions taken by the government, are now running away, he said.
The SAD leader said that during the last four and a half years, the Punjab economy has been shattered due to wrong policies and the non-performance of the government.
“Government employees are crying for non-release of salaries and their incentives, farmers and landless labourers are committing suicide because of non-implementation of complete debt waiver scheme, youth is wandering in search of jobs as ghar ghar naukri scheme proved to be a non-starter and old-age people were awaiting enhanced old age pension, marriageable girls are awaiting enhanced shagun scheme funds besides others,” he said.
He said that this government has pushed Punjab more than two decades back and whatever was achieved during the 10-year rule of the SAD-led governments under Parkash Singh Badal has been completely washed away.
He said that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are answerable to Punjabis for forcing a non-performing government on the state, a fact their own ministers and MLAs are now admitting to publicly.
He said that earlier, too, Punjab had witnessed a war of one-upmanship between Capt. Amarinder Singh and Navjot Sidhu and now their teams have again turned Punjab into a battleground for Congress infighting.
He said that now Punjabis were eagerly waiting for the 2022 Assembly elections to throw this non-performing, most corrupt government full of scandals out of power and re-establish a pro-people government of the SAD-BSP alliance.
