Dharamsala,
Delhi and Dharamsala, 474 kilometres apart and an altitude difference of 5412m — and what a sea change it is turning out to be! From breathing problems and vomiting to an extended practice session continuing for more than three hours. From Air Quality Index (AQI) talk to rarefied air, that’s how cricket writers love to describe the hill town’s atmosphere.
In all probability, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala, one of the most picturesque stadiums in the world, is soon going to acquire the sobriquet ‘stadium with the best air quality in India’. The venue got India coach Ravi Shastri’s endorsement on Friday afternoon. “Breathe easy in Dharamsala #TeamIndia #INDvSL,” he tweeted with a picture of the HPCA Stadium under the clear blue sky.
Sri Lanka captain Thisara Perera too sounded happy with the venue. Replying to a question while addressing the pre-match press conference on Saturday, Perera said, “Some the players had breathing problem in Delhi… But now everything is good.”
Ever since the Sri Lankans have landed in Dharamsala, they have been enjoying themselves in the field, with their extended training sessions, and no sign of discomfort. They looked cheery, rejuvenated and upbeat.
The only concern here was of the rain forecast for Sunday, but till Saturday evening the skies were clear with no hint of rain.
