Ahead of PM address, Centre asks states to create medical management net for COVID cases nearing 500 now

New Delhi

Cabinet Secretary Rajeev Gauba wrote to state chief secretaries to immediately earmark a hospital in each district to help manage the contagion.

Gauba referred to the video conference between states and the central government two days ago to say a dedicated COVID management unit would be critical going forward to prevent mixing of infected and uninfected people.

India is on the verge of entering community transmission stage of the virus which will gradually acquire huge infective capacity, with one infected person capable of transmitting the virus RO three and triggering a chain reaction.

The central government further asked all the state governments to deploy fiscal resources for establishing additional medical facilities such as hospitals, clinical labs, isolation wards, expanding & upgrading existing facilities to combat the challenge posed by COVID19. These facilities need to be well equipped with ventilators, personal protective equipment (PPEs), masks and drugs to treat the patients.

With currently underway social distancing which people are not taking seriously the Government has hoped to check infections and case load.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 8 pm address to the nation today could announce something drastic to enforce complete lockdown and keep people at homes, so that the potential burden of disease can be reduced and the viral onslaught managed.
