After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav is now facing a defamation case in Gujarat. A case has been filed against the RJD leader in an Ahmedabad court for his ‘only Gujarati can be a fraudster’ remark.
In March, Tejashwi Yadav said the situation in the country was such that only a Gujarati can be a fraudster as their fraud would be forgiven.
“In the country’s present scenario, only a Gujarati can be a fraudster as their fraud would be forgiven,” said the RJD leader. His remark had come after Interpol withdrew the Red Corner Notice (RCN) against fugitive Indian diamantaire Mehul Choksi.
A businessman named Haresh Mehta has registered a complaint against Tejashwi Yadav in the Metropolitan Court of Ahmedabad. He has mentioned that he had seen this statement in the news, and the remark hurt Gujarati pride.
A case has been registered against Tejashwi Yadav under Sections 499 and 500 of the IPC. Section 499 defines what is defamation, whereas Section 500 deals with punishment for defamation.
The hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 1. The court may likely issue summons to Tejashwi Yadav and ask him to appear in the court
