Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
New Delhi, February 7 : As the Indian Parliament has passed Anand Marriage Act in 2012 and same has been implemented in more than 14 states and Union Territories, move has been initiated in Pakistan to get enacted an act on the pattern of Indian act so as to enable the Sikhs residing in Pakistan to get their marriages registred under the act.
Disclosing this in a statement released here today, Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa General Secretary Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) said that Pakistan Punjab Assembly member Mr. Ramesh Singh Arora has moved a bill in this regard in the provincial assembly. He further disclosed that the Speaker of the assembly has sent the bill to Standing Committee of the Assembly so as to formulate that act.
Mr. Sirsa said that in a telephonic conversation with him Mr. Ramesh Singh Arora congratulated him for getting this act implemented in 14 states including the National Capital Delhi. He also sought cooperation from the DSGMC and SGPC for the same and urged to provide a copy of the act passed in India.
Mr. Sirsa disclosed that he has assured full support not only from both the elected bodies of the Sikhs in India but has also assured him that if any clarification is required from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Rehat Maryada regarding it, he will personally appeal Jathedar Sahib to guide him for the same so that the act can be framed keeping in view Rehat Maryada of Sikhism. He said that when the act will be framed keeping view guidance from Sri Akal Takht sahib it will be easier for the Sikhs residing in Pakistan to follow the act and get their marriages registered under the act.
Mr. Sirsa also hoped that the present bill will be passed by the assembly in this tenure only and it will become an act soon.
Mr. Sirsa further said that time has come when Anand Marriage act has to be framed in all the major countries of the world because with the blessings of Guru Nanak Dev ji Sikhs have now settled in almost every part of the world. He said in a host of countries their population is in millions and thus enactment of such a law in these countries will facilitate registration of sikh couples under the said act.
The DSGMC General Secretary also exhorted all the lawmakers of the different countries to follow the suit and assured all cooperation for enactment of such act which will help a lot the sikh community settled in different countries.
