AB de Villiers shows why is he ‘most valuable cricketer on the planet’

New Delhi: Days after former Australian legend Adam Gilchrist hailed AB de Villiers as the most valuable cricketer on the planet, the wicketkeeper-batsman showed the cricket fraternity the reason why several cricket experts, cricketers rate him so highly as a player.

The crowd at Johannesburg got entertainment worth their money on Sunday, as AB pummeled a 31-ball ton in a run-fest where South Africa’s top three slammed massive centuries. While Hashim Amla (153*) and Rilee Rosouw (128) stitched a 247-run stand for the first wicket, Amla and AB added another 192-run for the second wicket taking their team past yet another mammoth total.

On his way during the historic knock, AB first surpassed Sanath Jayasuriya’s record for the fastest ODI fifty (17 balls) by taking just 16 balls and soon broke the fastest ODI century record, previously held by Corey Anderson (36 balls), by smashing a ton off just 31 balls.

AB once again mesmerised everybody with his innovative shot-making and slammed the Windies bowlers to all parts of the ground, as 16 of his strokes landed behind the boundary!

South Africa crossed the 400-run mark, for the third time in ODI cricket history. Previously, the Proteas had scored 438/9 against Australia in 2006 and 418/5 against Zimbabwe in the same year.

AB has rung the alarm bells for several bowlers across the world with his whirlwhind knock and the think tanks would be busy discussing ways to tackle his incredible batting style at the forthcoming World Cup.
