CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 22: To protest against the high-headedness of the state Police, which slapped false cases against the AAP volunteers protesting peacefully against the supply of contaminated water in the villages, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today announced to hold a ‘rally’ in the village of Akali Minister Ajit Singh Kohar on August 31.
The announcement of holding rally was made at the Dharna organized by AAP at Shahkot against harassing and slapping false cases against demonstrating AAP volunteers.
Dharna was addressed by State Convenor of AAP, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Head of the Youth Wing Harjot Bains, Party’s Spokesman Sukhpal Khaira and Senior party leader Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, National Secretary Organization Building, Durgesh Pathak, National Executive Member Yamini Gaumer, General Secretary of Youth Wing, Sukhdeep Singh Apra and AAP’s candidate from Sultanpur Lodhi assembly segment Sajjan Singh Cheema were also among the protestors.
It is pertinent to mention here that a person was died and over 50 people across four villages in Shahkot have been hospitalized after drinking contaminate water being supplied to the villages from an overhead tank and AAP leaders were protesting against this, when they were slapped with cases by police.
“We will not tolerate such high-headedness of Police Officers, who are acting like puppets of Akalis to please their political bosses”, AAP leaders said while vowing “we will take Akalis head-on, if they will stoop so low in the politics”.
Later on a memorandum was handed over to district administration demanding immediate suspension of erring DSP Jaswinder Singh Brar, free treatment to the patients, who were suffering from the water-borne decease in the area and withdrawal of false cases against the AAP volunteers.
Acceding to the demands of AAP leaders, District Administration immediately sent the DSP on one week leave, initiating enquiry against him and instructed the Health Officials to provide free treatment to the patients suffering from the water-borne deceases.
As far as withdrawal of the ‘bogus’ cases against AAP volunteers is concerned, Senior Police Officials ordered inquiry into the cases and assured till the completion of inquiry, no arrest would be made in this regard.
