AAP rift to hit its ‘Mission 2017’

p2New Delhi, July 25
The ongoing tussle in the Aam Aadmi Party unit in Punjab could affect the party’s presence in Parliament with three of the four representatives mulling future course of action, including separation from the parent party.
Over the past few weeks, the tussle between MPs, including Dharamvira Gandhi (Patiala) and Harinder Singh Khalsa (Fathehgarh Sahib), have been at the receiving end of the verbal attacks from some party members in Punjab.
The MPs had expressed solidarity with noted ophthalmologist Daljit Singh against whom the AAP leadership took action by expelling him. Dr Singh, who contested from the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, was the chairman of the party’s Disciplinary Committee and State Executive.
Over the past few days, party MPs have been holding meetings among themselves expressing anguish over the manner in which affairs of the state unit of the party is being run under the leadership of Sucha Singh Chhotepur and AAP central leader Sanjay Singh.
Differences with the AAP central leadership led to at least two MPs discussing the possibility of forming a separate group in Parliament, both as a mark of protest and to chart a separate course.
With elections to the Punjab State Assembly due early 2017, the rumblings in the party could be a deterrent to its plans to mount a major challenge to the ruling SAD-BJP coalition and the principal challenger Congress, which too is facing leadership woes.
