AAP opposes hike in bus fares, demands to reduce VAT on diesel

Chandigarh,  Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) today strongly opposed another hike in the electricity tariff in Punjab. The state government has raised the fares third time in current year.

AAP leader and MLA Aman Arora in a statement issued from party office here blamed Capt Amarinder Singh for putting burden of lakhs of rupees on the commuters by raising fare by Seven Paise per kilometer. He said that hike was made at a time when people were reeling under poverty and inflation making it difficult for them to survive.

Arora said that bus fare hike by Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) will also be implemented by Punjab Roadways and Private bus operators. He said that private transporters will make hay of the decision.

Severely criticizing Capt Amarinder Singh government, Arora demanded to reduce VAT on diesel which is main factor behind increase in bus fares. He said that VAT on diesel and Petrol in Punjab is second highest in the country with 36 percent tax. He demanded to withdraw bus fare hike.
