CAPT. AMARINDER SEEKS SPECIAL ASSISTANCE FROM MODI FOR 550TH ANNIVERSARY OF SRI GURU NANAK JI

Chandigarh, February 15:

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking special assistance for the commemoration of the 550th anniversary of the Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and urging him to constitute an organizing committee for the preparation.

In his letter, the Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister to personally head the committee, which should be set up under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture, to give a sense of purpose to the preparatory efforts for this historic event.

While the state government was preparing a detailed report, which would be submitted to the prime minister shortly, the Chief Minister sought special assistance from the Government of India to facilitate the state government in planning and executing the commemorative and infrastructure projects needed for the occasion, especially in places associated with the life of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.

The state government, said Captain Amarinder Singh, had decided to commemorate the event in a befitting manner so that the teachings and message of the great Guru could be showcased not just to the people of India but also the rest of the world. A state-level committee had been constituted to draw up an action plan and a programme of events, he informed the prime minister, noting that “we are fortunate to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, which falls in 2019.”
