Chandigarh, February 5 – Former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today expressed deep shock and grief at the sudden passing away of veteran Akali and former minister Ajit Singh Kohar last night.
In a condolence message here, both leaders said Sardar Ajit Singh Kohar was one of the tallest Akali leaders of his time and would always be remembered for his services to Punjab and particularly the Doaba region.
S Parkash Singh Badal also recalled S Kohar’s services to the SAD as well as Punjab’s peasantry. “Kohar Sahab was always by my side in all pro-people agitations led by the Akali Dal. In this death I have lost a dear friend and colleague”.
S Sukhbir Badal said S Kohar was also not only a people’s leader which had seen him get elected five times continuously from Lohian and later Shahkot constituency, but also an able administrator. “He did valuable service to the State as the Revenue minister in 2007 and later as the Transport minister”.
Both leaders said the void left behind by Sardar Kohar would be difficult to fill. They expressed their deep sense of grief to the bereaved family including the former minister’s son Naib Singh and two daughters and prayed to the almighty to provide eternal peace to the departed soul.
