Child rights protection commission chairman stresses on compliance of supreme court guidelines

supreme_courtChandigarh, A meeting of the child rights protection commission, Punjabwas held today at commission’s office at forest complex, sector-68, Mohali. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Sukesh Kaalia, Chairman.

Stating this, a spokesperson of the commission said that during this meeting various issues regarding the welfare and protection of children were discussed. It was brought to the notice of the commission that the Supreme Court guidelines regarding the safety of children in school buses are not being adhered to. So, the commission issued directions to all the Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to make sure that the guidelines are strictly followed.

The commission also noted with concern that the private schools are not following the provisions of right to education act. So, it was decided that the members of the commission along with other officials would conduct random checks at schools and submit the report to the commission.

Besides this, the commission also heard  the complaint against Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy, Ropar but postponed the hearing to 16th December as inquiry record was not available. The commission also took stern notice of the death of a student at Jalandhar and summoned the school management on 16thDecember. Other issues like the burning of a minor girl at Ludhiana, molestation of a child by a tutor and making it’s video, the death of 6 children at Ludhiana , implication and beating up of a  child in false case by a sub-inspector and taking suo-moto notice, asked the Deputy Commissioners of Ludhianaand Jalandhar to submit action taken report within 10 days.

During the meeting, the Chairman made it clear that any violator of child rights will not be spared. During the meeting, senior officers like- Secretary Sumer Singh Gujjar I.A.S., Deputy Director Rajwinder Singh Gill and Sheila Devi, member were also present.
