Two gangsters killed in police encounter in Bathinda

Bathinda, December 15: Two gangsters were killed and one was gravely wounded in a shootout near a government school in the district’s Gulabgarh village on Friday, police said.

Police claimed the suspects — five in total — had taken a vehicle at gunpoint at Bucho Khurd. The suspects then raced to Tungwali, and police asked a Crime Investigation Agency team patrolling near Gulabgarh village for assistance.

The team then blocked the suspects’ way, resulting a shootout. Three people — identified as Manpreet Manna, Pardeep and Amritpal — were wounded in the incident. The first two died after the shooting. Amritpal is currently undergoing treatment for his wounds.

Two suspects — identified only as Bhinda and Ginda — were arrested while they were trying to escape, police said.

A 9-mm pistol, .32-bore pistol and a .315-bore pistol were seized from the suspects, Inspector General of Police Mukhwinder Singh Chinna said. Police later said that all five were part of gangster Vicky Gounder’s gang.

Sources in police said that a suspect had admitted that they took a vehicle to Malout town, where they boarded a bus to Bathinda, then arranged for another vehicle to take them to Bucho Khurd.

A police team found the suspects’ vehicle parked near a grain market in Malout town, the sources said, adding that they were now investigating if the vehicle’s registration number was legitimate.
