Srinagar :- The ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against senior BJP leader and Home Minister Rajnath Singh for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct.
“The NC has filed a complaint against Rajnath with the ECI for violating the Model Code of Conduct by using the Srinagar Airport premises to telephonically address people gathered at Akkad in Pahalgam yesterday (Friday),” NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu said.
Rajnath had addressed BJP activists in Akkad via phone after he got stuck at Srinagar airport due to bad weather. Mattu said the party had demanded immediate action from the poll panel against the Union Minister.
According to the NC spokesman, use of government infrastructure and premises of a building that comes under the purview of government for the purpose of electioneering is a major poll code violation.
The party spokesman said they are also filing a complaint with the EC against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his saffron party for levelling baseless, unsubstantiated and wild allegations against the NC leadership.
The PM, during his rallies in Udhampur and Poonch on Friday, had accused the NC, Congress and the PDP of indulging in corruption and looting the state and emotionally blackmailing people.
Babbar Retorts
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusation against the state government of looting public money, Congress leader and Bollywood star Raj Babbar said he had been saying since 1982 that Central funds were not reaching the people of the state.
He said he was not in active politics back then. “For this very reason, people in the state feel that they have not been given their due”.
Babbar, while addressing a press conference along with J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Saif-ud-Din Soz here, said, “For this reason, the UPA-II Government passed laws to ensure that funds reach the deserving. ‘Aapka Paisa Aapke Haat’ scheme was launched so that the funds reached the beneficiaries.”
On the Prime Minister’s statement that he visited the state every month to wipe the tears of the people, the former star said, “It is very unfortunate that despite knowing that people in J&K have tears in their eyes, he has not tried to stop the flow of tears”.
“They (the BJP) want the tears to flow,” he said.
