Sangrur, November 8
All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesman and Sangrur Congress MLA Vijay Inder Singla on Wednesday organised a protest in city against demonetisation.
Singla, a member of the Himachal Pardesh (HP) Screening Committee, said the BJP would lose the Himachal polls because of demonetisation as it had caused serious problems to all residents.
“Our Prime Minister is celebrating the murder of 150 people, who died after demonetisation. Our GDP came down and it increased unemployment, businessmen suffered losses. Demonetisation is a disaster and with what face our PM is celebrating it?” Singla said.
Singla, along with senior Congress leaders, on Wednesday organised a protest march in the main markets of Sangrur. The march started from the bus stand, paused for sometime at Bara Chowk and then culminated at the Patiala gate. All leaders carried placards showing the ill-effects of demonetisation and raised slogans against the PM and BJP.
“Being a member of the screening committee for ticket allocation for Himachal elections, I can say that the BJP would lose in HP and the Congress would form government again with a majority,” said Singla, who returned from Himachal on Tuesday evening after camping there for more than two weeks.
He said BJP leaders were spreading misinformation that demonetisation had benefited the country, challenging them to show him a businessmen who had benefited from it.
“Today, BJP leaders are making false claims about the success of demonetisation; whereas the fact is everyone knows how it has ruined the economy,” said Singla.
