It was double shocker for the family of a 42-year-old arhtiya, who was shot dead by an unidentified youth in the new grain market on Wednesday night, after his mother also died on hearing the news of her son’s murder.
The police are still groping in the dark as it failed to get the password of the computer to get the CCTV footage of the crime scene.
Meanwhile, the commission agent association here held a meeting and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
The arhtiya was identified as Monik Jindal. The incident took place at 8.45 pm. After hearing the gunshots, labourers and traders rushed towards the victim’s shop and saw him lying in a pool of blood. They then informed the police.
Eyewitnesses told the police that a turbaned youth with face covered entered the shop and shot Monik from the close range. They said the accused had come on a motorcycle.
Karnail Singh, SHO, said they were trying to seek the footage from the CCTV at the shop and outside. IG Patiala Zone Amardeep Singh Rai said personal enmity seemed to be the reason.
