Jiwanjot’s double delights Punjab

Porvorim, Opener Jiwanjot Singh struck a double-century and Anmolpreet Singh hit a ton as Punjab reached 396/2 on the opening day of their Group D Ranji Trophy match against Goa here today. Opting to bat, Punjab got off to a poor start as they lost opener Manan Vohra for a duck in the very first over. Jiwanjot, however, scored an unbeaten 215 and Anmolpreet undefeated 103 to put the team in a commanding position by the end of the day’s play.
The duo shared an unbroken 236-run stand for the fourth wicket. Anmolpreet (103 not out) promoted to No. 4 in the absence of Yuvraj Singh, struck 11 fours and two sixes, while Jiwanjot hit 26 boundaries and a six. Uday Kaul missed out on converting a good start as he fell for 66 off 118 balls.
Haryana out for 208
Ranchi: Haryana managed a paltry 208 against Jharkhand on the first day of their Ranji Trophy encounter here today. Off-spinner Sunny Gupta (4/67) and seamer Jaskaran Singh (3/52) did most of the damage, while India A regular Shahbaz Nadeem chipped in with 2/27. Haryana got off to a good start and were comfortably placed at 146/2, thanks to half-centuries from opener Shubham Rohilla (52) and Chaitanya Bishnoi (61). The visitors, however, suffered a massive collapse as they lost the last eight wickets for just 54 runs. Jharkhand, in reply, were 14 for no loss at the end of the day’s play.
