Chandigarh, The Punjab and Haryana high court today granted bail to former Punjab Public Service Commission chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu in the recruitment scam in which he had been sentenced by the trial court.
He had been sentenced to six years in jail and fined Rs 1.50 lakh by the Ropar district court against which he had already filed an appeal in the high court.
He submitted that he should be granted bail till the decision on his appeal was pending and the sentence be suspended. He had stated that he had already completed one third of his sentence in jail and as such, bail was his right.
It may be mentioned that Sidhu had been arrested by the vigilance bureau on March 25, 2002 while accepting bribe of Rs. 5 lakh. Later, abour Rs. 9.19 crore unaccounted money was seized from his different accounts and lockers.
