Bajwa cautions Sukhbir against harassment of Sukhpal Khaira

Partap-Singh-Bajwa1Chandigarh,The Punjab Congress president Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today cautioned the Punjab police against any attempt to the harass senior party leader Mr Sukhpal Singh Khaira and said such nefarious designs would be opposed tooth and nail.

In a statement, Mr Bajwa refuted the allegations levelled against Mr Khaira by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Gaurav Yadav as utterly malicious to scuttle his campaign against the revenue Minister Mr Bikram Singh Majitha in the drug smuggling case. He alleged that the Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal was trying to stop him through police. He asserted that law must be allowed to take its own course. He said Mr Khaira was known for exposing misdeeds of Mr Sukhbir Badal.

He said Mr Khaira had challenged the state government to order judicial probe by a sitting judge of the high court into his role and that of Mr Majithia as this was the best solution under the given situation.
He said it was a clear case of vendetta as it was Mr Khaira who had approached the Supreme Court in 2008 to shift the trials of the Badals outside Punjab. Yet he had filed another case challenging the grant of Lawrence School, Sanawar by Mr Sukhbir Badal.

Mr Bajwa made it clear that the Congress would stand like a rock behind every leader of the party and would never tolerate such attempts by the Parkash Singh Badal government to browbeat them. The Congress would continue to raise its voice against the misdeeds of those in power, how-so-ever high they might be, he added.
