Manpreet strongly opposes efforts to harass Sukhpal Khaira by police

manpreetChandigarh, People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal today strongly condemned the efforts of the Punjab police to browbeat senior Congress leader and former MLA Mr Sukhpal Singh Khaira to silence his voice that he had been raising against the misdeeds of the Parkash Singh Badal government with the latest case being that of name of the Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia having surfaced in the drug smuggling racket about which he was likely to be questioned by the enforcement directorate.

Manpreet said the allegations levelled against Khaira by IGP Gaurav Yaday about certain documents produced by him being fictitious were utterly false and malicious. The entire story had been concocted by the police. It was a clear case of authoritarian approach being resorted to in an attempt to crush democratic right of the people to expose the misdeeds of the government.

He dared Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to order judicial probe by a sitting judge of the high court into the drug smuggling in the state with reference to the allegations against Majithia and the charges being levelled by the police against Khaira. He said no junior official should be made a scapegoat in this case as was being done by implicating a sub-inspector level official for supplying information to Khaira. He said the arrest of this police official was yet another attempt to use him against Khaira.

Manpreet said his party would confront such attempts by the police to crush the adversaries of the Badal government. He said his party was with Khaira and all those who were trying to expose corruption in this government.
