Punjab perpetuates sacrifice of Sahibzadas

Chandigarh, The Punjab government today issued notifications renaming historic holy cities of Chamkaur Sahib (District Rupnagar) and Machhiwara (Ludhiana) as Sri Chamkaur Sahib and Machhiwara Sahib with immediate effect.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesman said that this decision has been as a humble tribute to the unparalleled martyrdom of (Sahibzadas) Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh, elder sons of Guru Gobind Singh. It may be mentioned here that the elder Sahibzadas attained martyrdom while fighting Mughal forces at Sri Chamkaur Sahib and Guru Gobind Singh ji rested in forests located in Machhiwara for some time after the battle of Chamkaur Sahib.
